PT3/TALENT Faculty Development Coordinator

As a coordinator with the PT3-TALENT grant, Scott has an active role in faculty development and technology integration initiatives. Scott’s recent work with faculty in the College of Education has centered around the instructional use of digital video, online communication tools, Blackboard, WebCT, web-based databases, and online discussion portals. He is a frequent presenter at local, state and national conferences on such topics as digital video production, digital video’s potential impact on teaching and learning, and online communication tools.

After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois in 1988, Scott was the Head Teacher of the 3 – 4 year olds room at the Child Development Center in Rockford, IL. In 1990, Scott returned to the University of Illinois to complete his Masters of Arts degree in Art Education, during which he was the Lead Teacher in the Preschool-Kindergarten class of the Saturday School Art Program. During his graduate school years, he worked on various instructional technology grants while employed at the Krannert Art Museum, the Agricultural Instructional Media Lab, the Cooperative Extension Services, and the Art Education department. During those years, he also served for three years as Assistant Teacher in the half-day Two’s Room at the UIUC’s Child Development Laboratory. Upon completion of his Master's degree in 1996, Scott was Webmaster / Instructional Technologist at Parkland College where he co-designed Parkland’s first online course, English 101, and later English 102, Speech 101, and Chemistry 100. In 1998, Scott took the administrative position of Learning Technologist at Joliet Junior College where he managed the Center of Technology and Innovation, a multimedia development lab focusing on faculty development, online course creation, and general support for the instructional technology initiatives of faculty. Adding to Joliet Junior College’s long tradition of distance opportunities, Scott managed the development of Joliet Junior College’s first online course offerings including Art Appreciation, U.S. History, Hospitality and Restaurant Management, and Introductory Algebra. After bringing the Blackboard online system to Joliet Junior College in 1999, Scott was invited to join the Blackboard Speakers Bureau and presented regarding the instructional potentials of Blackboard at the 2000 Blackboard User’s Conference in Washington, D.C., the 2000 Teaching and Learning Conference in Madison, WI, the 2001 Illinois Higher Education Distance Learning Conference in Moline, IL, and at numerous South Metropolitan Regional Higher Education Consortium Workshops.
